چکیده

Case 1, a girl aged 3 years (III, 5), was born at full term on November 8, 1953. At birth the corneae were noticed to be enlarged and cloudy, and she was transferred to the Royal Eye Hospital a few days later. On admission both corneae were enlarged and hazy. The anterior chamber was deep in each eye. Fundus details were not seen. The corneal diameter was 115 mm. in the right eye and 12 mm. in the left. The ocular tension was 29 mm. Hg (Schiotz) in the right eye and 28 mm. Hg. in the left. The ocular tension was controlled in the right eye by goniotomy, using Barkan's method; this was repeated five times. The left eye required seven goniotomies and finally a trephine. Since May, 1955, when the child was 18 months old, the tension has remained controlled in both eyes, the corneae are clear, and no drops are required. The optic discs are pale and cupped.

ANTERIOR MEGALOPHTHALMOS

Anterior megalophthalmos is a developmental anomaly of the anterior ocular segment. This is an X-linked recessive disease and manifests as bilateral enlarged corneas, open iridocorneal angle, hypoplastic iris and dislocation and opacification of an apparently small lens. We have also observed obvious vitreoretinal degeneration in our patients. What may threaten visual acuity later is an op...

[Bilateral choanal atresia in adults].

Bilateral choanal atresia is a congenital anomaly which occurs immediately after birth and requires immediate intervention. In the light of these two adult cases, we aimed to review the diagnostic and the...

Unilateral microcornea and enophthalmos with bilateral anterior and posterior anomalies.

THE term microcornea should be reserved for the condition wherein an abnormally small cornea (diameter less than 11 mm.) occurs in an otherwise relatively normal eye (Mann, 1957). Friede (1922) suggested the term "anterior microphthalmos", because the whole of the anterior segment of the eye seems to be small. The rectus muscles are inserted abnormally far forwards, and the corneal curvature te...

Congenital keratoglobus with blue sclera in two siblings with overlapping Marshall/Stickler phenotype

We aimed to describe congenital keratoglobus with blue sclera in two siblings with overlapping Marshall/Stickler phenotype. Two sisters (ages four and six) with bilateral high astigmatism were evaluated by slit-lamp microscopy. Corneal topography and pachymetry maps were also obtained. Slit-lamp examination revealed that both corneas were globular in shape with peripheral corneal thinning. Pach...
